Las obras Fun Home y The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time se impusieron anoche en los Premios Tony al ser las grandes ganadoras de la noche.
Cada una de las obras ganó cinco estatuillas en la edición 69 de los Tony, la primera como obra musical y la segunda como no musical.
Fun Home está basado en un cómic de temática homosexual de Alison Bechdel, esta puesta en escena estuvo nominada a doce premios, de los cuales logró ganar 5: mejor obra musical, mejor actor en Musical (Michael Cervaris, que se llevó su segundo premio Tony), mejor libreto, mejor dirección y mejor composición musical.
La obra The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time basada en la novela de Mark Haddon sobre un joven autista y la forma en que sus seres queridos enfrentan la enfermedad gano cinco premios de seis nominaciones que tenía: mejor obra no musical, mejor dirección, mejor actor en obra dramática (Alex Sharp), mejor iluminación y mejor puesta en escena. Esta obra tuvo una versión mexicana durante el año pasado que fue protagonizada por Luis Gerardo Méndez y Alfonso Dosal.
Anoche Helen Mirren también se convirtió en la primera actriz en ganar un Tony por un papel que también interpretó en cine: la reina Isabel II por la obra The Audience que narra las audiencias de la reina de Inglaterra con los diferentes primeros ministros británicos.
Otras obras que eran las favoritas como An American in Paris, tuvo cuatro estatuillas en categorías técnicas.
La ceremonia se llevó a cabo en el Radio City Music Hall y fue conducida por los ganadores del Tony, Alan Cummings y Kristin Chenoweth.
